HWEN's work is delegated to committees, each of whom coordinate with the Board to address their own initiatives. If you are passionate about any of the areas listed here, we want to hear from you! New volunteers are always welcome, and you do not have to be on the Board to volunteer. To learn more about how to get involved, please reach out to us at hwen.org@gmail.com
Educate neighbors about building and zoning laws that protect the livability and historic character of the neighborhood, and how violations can be reported to the city. Coordinate efforts to represent the neighborhood at public hearings for code variances or changes.
Work with Metro departments to improve safety on our streets and sidewalks and to promote their usability by all.
Support efforts to enhance the appearance of our green spaces, streets, and buildings, and help improve the environment. Projects include our arboretum, community compost center, Mutt Mitt stations, semi-annual plant swaps, pollinator seed project, and neighborhood clean-ups.
Spread the word to neighbors using the newsletter, website, and social media. Volunteers are needed to write articles for the newsletter, distribute it to houses, and to keep our electronic communications current.
Plan and coordinate our neighborhood events, including the Garden Tour, the Dragon Music concert, HWEN Yard Sale, and the Annual Meeting. Contact hwen.org@gmail.com
