Get Involved

Committees work with a board member chair to manage long-term projects and initiatives. If you have a particular concern about something in the neighborhood, please contact the chairperson listed below. New volunteers are always welcome if you would like to help!

Zoning and Codes

Educate neighbors about building and zoning laws that protect the livability and historic character of the neighborhood, and how violations can be reported to the city. Coordinate efforts to represent the neighborhood at public hearings for code variances or changes. Contact Phil Wood at phildwoodjr@gmail.com

Streets

Work with Metro departments to improve safety on our streets and sidewalks and to promote their usability by all. Contact Lee Vinson at w.lee.vinson@gmail.com

Beautification

Support efforts to enhance the appearance of our streets and buildings and help improve the environment. Help to plan our yearly Plant Swap, Tree Day sale, and ongoing neighborhood planting and clean-up efforts. Contact Miriam Mimms at miriammimms@comcast.net

Communications

Spread the word to neighbors using the newsletter, website, and social media. Volunteers are needed to write articles for the newsletter, distribute it to houses, and to keep our electronic communications current. Contact hwen.org@gmail.com

Special Events

Plan and coordinate our neighborhood events, including the Garden Tour, the Dragon Music Sunday concert, and the Annual Meeting. Contact hwen.org@gmail.com

Institutional Relations

Work with partners including Metro Schools, Vanderbilt University, Metro Police, Hillsboro Village merchants, and Ronald McDonald House to promote good communication and advance shared goals. Contact Colin Rushing at colin.rushing@mac.com
